Club History

"Study the past if you would define the future" - Confucius

Thanks to the Alumni network for helping build out this page.

The club began in as early as 2005, as a mixed club team. The team alternated between calling themselves The Rams and just West Chester Ultimate. Asked about their team name in the past, Alumni John Henkel said, "I don’t think 1) we cared 2) we knew 3) ever thought about it." There were more important things to worry about in those early years of the club's history.

By Fall of 2011, the club had functionally split into distinct men's and women's teams. The two teams officially separated into two clubs in 2016, with Meg Wadlinger being the last combined president in 2015.

The club's first home tournament was ‘Huck it to Ghana’ in 2014, which included an open tournament at Robert E Lambert Park and women’s round robin at Oakbourne Park.

The team won the section for the first (and only) time in 2014. In 2017, the team upset Villanova and Ohio State to finish 3rd in the region which was tied for highest anyone in our section had done at that point. Six players who played from 2015-2019 went on to make a semi-pro team during their ultimate career.

After much deliberation, the team decided on an official name for the club team in the 2022-2023 season. The "Jesters" and B-team "Besters" didn't last long, however. By Fall of 2023, the team rebranded to "Dub" to reflect their commitment to higher competition. The club was again able to field a B-team in the 23-24 season. The next year, the B-team expanded and took on the name "Dub-LITE". The program managed a C-team "Dub-Lite Lime" in the fall as well. â€‹

After an extremely successful 24-45 season, club leadership decided they had the necessary momentum behind them to transition the club/teams into a fully-fledged program. West Chester University Ultimate Program (WCU-UP) was born. The Program now boasts a highly competitive A-team "DUB" and a competitive developmental team "CO-OP". The Program also now includes a large Alumni network and support from friends/parents.
